Full Senate set to vote October 26.
The Senate Judiciary Committee officially voted to advance the Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett for a final vote of the Senate.
Those on the committee who support the nominee voted in person, those who did not support the nomination abstained from voting in boycott because they object to the nomination and the process taking place so close to the election.
Ahead of taking the vote, Senator Lindsey Graham, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, cautioned opponents that the boycott would further degrade the confirmation process. He stated that his abstaining colleagues would not stop the process.
Shortly after the committee’s 12-0 vote, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and nine of the 10 panel members who abstained held a press conference on the Senate steps outside of the Capitol. He announced the boycott of the confirmation and warned of “dire consequences.”
